True Self-Control

Good Morning Girls!  Starting today I am also posting my daily blog on a new website.  It is www.transformation.com.  It is an awesome new website by Bill Phillips, author of the book Body for Life.  Check it out, you will be blessed and inspired.    For those of you joining us for the first time, we have been taking a look at the fruits of the Spirit as listed in Galatians 5:22-23.   If you want to catch-up go to www.whatrealwomendo.com.  This week we are going to finish with self- control.  Ahhhh, self-control, one of my favorites.  I used to refer to myself as the Queen of Instant Gratification.  That self imposed title should reveal to you all my past level of self control.  I didn't have, nor did I want anything to do with self-control.  Self-control was no fun, it was restrictive, it was boring, it was for Miss Goody Two Shoes, which I was not!  So, I lived my life according to what my flesh and emotions wanted to do.  I'm sure you can all imagine the quality of life that brought me!   Webster's defines self-control as: Control of one's emotions, desires or actions, by one's own will.  I am going to disagree with Mr Webster today.  You see, I do not believe that true self-control comes from one's own will.  For example, back in my impulsive days, I would sometimes reap the consequences of my behavior, and decide to get my act together.  I would quit drinking, smoking, or start working out, whatever the "thing" was I was trying to fix.  I would have some measure of success, but eventually return to my past behaviors.  That is because I was trying to have self-control by my own will.  You see, our own will power is weaker than our whine ball flesh.  We cannot fight ourselves and the things that tempt us on our own.  We need help.  I believe true self-control actually comes when we let go of the control and hand it over to the Lord.  When we use the gifts He has given us to help us control our lives we will be able to lead a life worthy of His call, and we will finally have success.  Todays gift is the Word of God.  It is the best instruction manual on self-control you will ever find!

Titus 2:12 It teaches us to say "No" to ungodliness and wordly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age

Love you all-
Jen
