Waiting Like Watchmen
Good Morning Girls! Psalm 130:6 NIV My soul waits for the Lord more than watchmen wait for the morning, more than watchmen wait for the morning........Think about it. How do watchmen wait for the morning? Do they sit around reading the paper and talking? Do they take a nap when they feel tired? Do they punch out early when it seems like nothing is "going to happen"? Do they ignore strange sounds and voices? Of course not! If they did they would be fired, or worse, killed. If something happened, and they missed it, they would miss out on the exact thing they were put there to do! The image I have of a night watchman is a person who is standing tall, confident and dignified. He is completely aware of his surroundings. It is dark out, so he squints his eyes at the slightest sight of anything. Then he grabs binoculars to check it out more closely. His eyes are constantly scanning his territory, looking and listening for sounds. He follows the sound and determines if it is something that requires action, or if it is simply a noisy distraction. He is alert and ready to respond at all times. However, he does not jump at every little sight and sound. He determines the proper course of action in each individual instance. He watches over his own territory, and trusts the other watchmen to guard and take care of theirs . He is also there, willing to help the other watchmen if needed. Most nights nothing happens, but when something does, he is ready to respond........So how does that translate for our waiting? When we are believing for something, we need to have the same characteristics of this previously described watchman. We need to keep our attention to our task. When it seems like nothing is happening, we need to maintain our "position" of hope, and not "punch out" and call it quits. We need to be alert to any sounds or signs that it is time to take action. We need to determine if the enemy is distracting us with noise, diverting us away from the real action. We need to be prepared at all times. Prepared to move forward, as well as prepared to protect our territory (our hopes and beliefs). Most importantly, with must walk tall with dignity and confidence....confidence in the Lord at all times!
