Day 21
Day 21
Help!!!
Instead, let the Spirit renew your thoughts and attitudes –Ephesians 4:23
Yesterday I encouraged you to renew your mind. I imagine you may have become excited, determined, and ready for renewal! After all, if all you need to do is change your thinking a little, than let’s do it, right? All these years of dieting and now you have discovered the key- simply renew your mind. Perfect!.........
Then you tried it. You decided to look at food differently. You now see food as fuel, not as a big fluffy comforter you snuggle up with when feeling depressed, lonely, or frustrated. Food is fuel….food is fuel…..food is fuel….. There, mind renewed! Bring on the weight loss. Let’s go bikini shopping!
What? It didn’t turn out that way? Your desire for brownies and white mocha Frappaccino’s didn’t go away? You didn’t turn into a rabbit suddenly craving every green vegetable you could get your hands on? You didn’t walk in a trance over to your tennis shoes and suddenly start running cross country like Forrest Gump? You didn’t feel your brain turn on it’s axis like a globe and shift the way it looks at everything? No? Do you know what that means? It means you are human. You are flesh and blood- heavy emphasis on the flesh!
Our flesh loves to rule our lives. Simply taking 5 minutes to try and change your thoughts and attitudes will not undo the work your flesh has done on you for years. You need help. The good news is there is help. It comes from the Holy Spirit. It says in Romans
Dear Heavenly Father, I confess I cannot renew my mind on my own. I need help. I thank you for sending the Holy Spirit to help me in my weakness. I thank you that as I go into this week and learn more about you, that you reveal yourself to me. Show me what is best for me. Give me the eyes to see, the ears to hear, and the heart to receive what the Holy Spirit is revealing to me. In Jesus’ name, Amen
